Room 8 are in the mood for STEM activities!

Challenge 1

How to create a Cyclone Tube Tornado

Keira listened really well to Jamie reading the instructions.

Jamie was the Reader for his group.

Jessica filled the glass jar with water.

Jessica squirted some dishwashing liquid into the jar and put the lid back onto the jar.

Mark swirled the jar to create the tornado.

Jamie looked closely to what happened.

Now it was everyone's turn to create a tornado in a glass jar.

Challenge 2
How to create Lightning in a glass jar

John was the reader for this group.
Jacob lined the glass jar with tinfoil
and secured the dryer sheet onto the top of the jar with elastic bands.
Chloe and Eva took turns in sticking thumb tacks into the dryer sheet.
They put the lid back onto the jar.

Everyone took turns in rubbing the inflated balloon on their hair to create static electricity and then placing the balloon onto the top of the metallic lid of the jar. We didn't see the lightning and tried differnt solutions to the 'problem'. We decided we needed time to go away and do some research and think about what we need to change to get the experiment to work again next week.

Jamie and Keira reported back to the other group what they had done and observed.

Everyone had a fantastic time and want to try out both experiments again!
Even Mr Murphy got involved!
