At the Christmas Market with Room 9

Class 9 has been lucky to be involved in some very interesting and educational outings this year. Today we went to visit the Christmas Market at St Enoch's in Glasgow city centre. We caught the number 21 bus near the school and off we went!

We noticed the huge Christmas reindeer as we cut through the St Enoch's centre.

We waited for our guide to show us around the market.

The fudge and Turkish delight was very popular and came in lots of flavours. The traders were happy to give us all a free sample.

Leon had his eye on some really nice woollen hats which were shaped like cartoon characters.

The nice young French man showed the class lots of different wooden puzzles.

We learned how to make 'snow' using just polyester and some water.

The French ladies showed us how to make crepes and let us have some to try! Of course our boys wanted chocolate spread on theirs!

The French stall gave us some lovely flavoured, sliced potatoes to try. They were lovely and warm and just the job on a cold day.

We looked at some scented bath bombs and they smelled really nice.

The Spanish chef let us try his Paella. Mazin asked if it was halal and was told that it contained some pork so he didn't try it.

The Greek food was hot & spicy. Harris gave it a go as did Leon. The boys learned to say 'Yassas' (hello) & 'efcharistó' (Thank you!)

The Dutch pancakes were very nice indeed and the man preparing them was very funny!

After a long day on our feet, some of us were ready for a rest!

Today was another example of the great learning opportunities that exist in our community and wider city. The children interacted with people from a dozen countries, tried new foods and learned about different dishes each culture has to offer. They learned about using public transport and conducting themselves appropriately in a public place. They used skills such a reading, counting and knowledge of healthy foods to help them make choices and express preference. On top of all of that they had some good old fashioned fun too! Another good day from this excellent bunch of boys!
