Room 3 - All About Term 2

This term started with us all having great fun at Halloween!

Jack has been learning about adding and taking away.

We all had lots of fun using materials to build trains, cars and towers.

We used iPads to help us with our colours and sounds.

We helped the environment with our super litter picking skills!

We used playdoh to practise our sounds.

We played with sand, trucks and trains in the playroom.

We went out walking around the local area.

We learned about how to dress for different weathers.

We worked really hard all by ourselves.

We have done lots of great learning and activities in Term 2!

Room 9 reflecting on term 2

Term 2 has come to an end and it has simply flown past. We took part in so many different activities this term. We've had a Party at the City Chambers, a trip to the Christmas Market in town, work at B&Ms, visits to museums, Positive play outings to various parks and much more. We also took part in lots of learning activities in class and the children can all point to progress made in important areas.

The children will now tell you their favourite activity in term 2 and illustrate it with a photo.

First it's Harris...

I liked it when we went to Hollybrook Academy. We did an assault course and it was good. Exercise like that helps keep us healthy. We met old friends like Mark, David, John, Ayman and Sean.

I like the trip to the Christmas Market especially the big toy shop. I was sitting with a big, big Teddy!  Aman

Well looking after a baby was fun. I might learn to do that for real in the future!   James W

I like playing in the park with Aman. He's my friend. I climbed up very high!   Shah

The Park was good. I was bouncing on the trampoline.  Jamie

Working in B&Ms was good. I learned a lot. It was hard work and I was tired after it.   Liam

The Christmas Market was best. We tried lots of different food and got sweets off the people. Then we went into a big toy shop. It was good in there I played with remote controlled cars.  James McC
We went to a big party at a hotel beside the river. I saw Santa and we were dancing a lot. It was good fun. Leon

When we were changing the baby it was so funny. I got marmite all over its face!  Mazin

As well as enjoying all the fun activities and outings, Room 9 also worked hard at improving their reading, writing and maths this term. They learned about World War One and explored that period across the curriculum in art, writing, song and reading. They learned about the important rules of keeping safe online and pushed on in Sum-dog and IDL. All in all it was a busy but productive and happy term for this great bunch of boys.

Huge thanks to our wonderful parents who are the prime educators of their children. Your support and help is, as always, vital.

So a well earned rest soon for staff and children then we'll be back in January to do it all again!  I wonder what adventures in learning 2019 holds for us all?

Have a great festive season and a very happy New Year from all in Room 9.

Room 7 The Jolly Postman

Room 7- The Post Office

This term Room 7 have been learning all about the Post Office through the story The Jolly Postman and the Jolly Christmas Postman. Here is a look at some of the things we have done:

The children dressed as Post People and pretended to deliver letters from our own classroom Post Office.

We went to our local Post Office to buy some stamps.

We created leaflets to send home to our families to give them some ideas about what we would like for Christmas. These are photos of us posting our letters home.

We even met our local Postman out on his rounds.

Looking after a baby with Room 9

Room 9 were learning about how to look after a baby and it was a very worthwhile and interesting experience! Changing a baby is an important part of keeping the little one clean and healthy and we were determined to have a go. Of course, we didn't used a real baby as our trainee parents aren't quite ready for that yet- but even with the doll it demonstrated what a hard job it is!

James was his usual calm, collected self and approached the task with confidence.

He did get a surprise though when he removed the nappy and found the teacher had been using Marmite to bring some realism to the task!

He wasn't flustered though and just got on with it. His friends found it very funny but James was not bothered at all.

Within a few minutes he had a clean, dry, happy baby!

Top marks for James!

Mazin used another doll and was a little nervous!

But he kept going and asked some good questions about how and why we need to keep babies clean.

He did have one mishap though when he turned the baby over....

Oh dear! Just as well is wasn't a real baby!

Leon found changing a baby is hard when you've got the giggles!

His technique was rather rough!

Harris and Liam found it very funny!

Much as this experience was a good laugh, it also served to show the class that feeding, changing and caring for a baby is a hugely demanding job. James figured that 5 changes a day is 35 per week, 140 per month and over 1600 per year! Add to that feeding, teething & broken sleeps and you'll soon see being a parent is a tough job! To think their own parents did all of that for them!
