This week in Room 3...

We used our numicon blocks to build towers up to number 5.

We used playdoh to make boats, cars and aeroplanes.

We used our cutting skills to cut out fish and stick them onto our underwater submarine pictures.

We used a rocket launcher to make our rockets fly along the school corridor. It was great fun!

Maths Time in Room 9

Room 9 always enjoy maths time in class as it's a time of fun and challenge as well as a learning opportunity. The children learn mathematical concepts by manipulating various materials such as cubes, counters and base ten material.

It is very important that children get to use skills they learn in class in real life situations. That is why it is so good to take them to the supermarket or other such outings. They will see money, numbers, shapes, words, sizes and prices displayed there and begin to link them with the things they do in class.

Shah and Jamie are concentrating well.

Aman is solving his add on problems.

Mazin is figuring out hard sums using Base Ten material

Jamie is working well in maths these days.

The children learn about numbers in a whole host of ways and the emphasis is always on active learning and engaging the children.

Transport in Room 3

This week for our transport topic we all had turns of different activities. We used playdoh to make wheels, passengers on buses and different types of transport, we used the beebots to travel around the mat and we pushed and pulled cars up and down the ramp. Here are some photos of us working hard:

Transport in Room 3

This week Room 3 continued to work on our transport topic.

Rayyan and Maye used the BeeBots to travel around the mat.

They had to try to avoid going over the pictures with their BeeBot.

We painted the different parts of our train.

Maye painted the passengers carriage.

Jack painted a cargo carriage for our train.

Lexi painted the front of the train for the driver.

Rayyan painted another cargo carriage for our train.

It is going to look great when we show our train at assembly!

Room 9 learning about Islam

Learning about Islam

As part of our Religious Education Programme we have been learning about Islam in class 9 this past few weeks. We are very lucky to have several Muslim children in class who not only tell us about their faith but demonstrate how to pray or handle artefacts like the Quran.

It's very important we teach our young to have inquiring minds but also to respect the beliefs of others. The more we learn about Islam, Christianity, Judaism and other faiths, the more we see that they share common values such as forgiveness, sharing, love and respect.

Mazin taught us how to handle the Quran

He even had a go at reading the Arabic text!

Liam read a section of the English translation.

Aman explained that a compass helps Muslims to pray facing Mecca.

Mazin demonstrated the way Muslims pray.

He showed us how a prayer mat is used.

He takes it very seriously and was a good teacher in this area.

He also showed us clothes a Muslim might wear on Hajj. (Pilgrimage to holy places)
