This week Room 3 took a trip to the Art Galleries in Glasgow to see Dippy the Dinosaur.

Wednesday 23 January 2019

This week room 3 looked at the cars in the car park as part of out transport topic.

We found out about the different colours of cars and counted them.

We used the iPad and camera to take photos of the cars and our friends.

Room 9 learning about electricity

Class 9 have been learning about electricity and have been very interested to find out about this invisible but very useful thing in our lives. They learned that electricity is all around in nature but also very useful to us in powering our lights, TVs, phones, computer games and a thousand other devices we use in modern life.

We did some experiments to show how an electrical flow can travel along a wire and activate a device. Aman and Shah made a light work.

Working together led to good discussion, experiments and trial and error until success was achieved.

James and Liam were a good team and worked well together.

Jamie and James were challenged to build a Duplo house and fit a light in it!

Aman and Shah made a car with a light.

They got it to work!

The house was soon all lit up too!

Getting the wiring inside was tricky though.

We all learned about how much we rely on electricity and how to be safe around it. We also learned about the need to produce electricity in a way which doesn't pollute the world. Scotland leads the world in green power production with wind farms, wave machines and other sources of 'clean' energy production. That should be built on and expanded in the future.

Room 3 - Working Hard

This term our topic is all about different types of transport.

We read a story about Thomas the Tank Engine and then painted our own trains.

We are all learning to ride bikes to help us with our transport topic.

When we come into school in the morning we have lots of different activities that we do to help us settle in.

Maye is helping Rayyan with his jigsaws.

Lexi, Maye and Jack are working hard at their own activities.

Lexi built this all by himself!

Room 9 boys working hard

It was time for the boys of Room 9 who haven't yet been to B&Ms on work experience to get involved. Aman, Shah and Jamie headed up to the store to do their first work experience.

Jamie asked to be the greeter at the door and give customers baskets to use. Shah and Aman were working on the shop floor helping put away all sorts of items the store sells. It was a great first day for the boys but they'll be back every Monday to do and learn more!

First week back for Room 9

Our first week back after the Christmas holiday has bee a busy one as Room 9 look to get right back into the swing of things. Our Topic will be the book 'Matilda' by Roald Dahl which the boys chose themselves after a discussion and a vote.

We have been pushing on with practical maths and developing the important concepts involved in addition and subtraction. We also looked at Islam and we are lucky to have Muslim children in class who are happy to teach us about their faith. We study all the great faiths in school and emphasise the things they have in common like love, forgiveness, sharing and other such values.

Amam using counting figures to add.

Liam recognising numbers by touch alone.

Shah it touching the sandpaper number and using a multi-sensory approach to learning.

Now it's Harris' turn. Can he tell us the number is 65 just by touching it? Of course he can!

Leon playing 'higher or lower' with the big cards.

Mazin explaining that the Koran should be treated with respect and care.

He also demonstrated how to use a prayer mat correctly.

Aman explained the compass helps Muslims face Mecca as they pray.

All in all it has been a great first week back. The class is hard working and keen to learn. That attitude will serve them well.
